Friday basketball results include Mammoth Spring sweeping BIC

Mammoth Spring’s high school basketball teams had a good night at home Friday as they were able to sweep Buffalo Island Central.
The boys’ game ended with the Bears topping the Mustangs 52-36. Zack Flynn led Mammoth Spring with 16 points, and Alex Mero added 15. The Bears improve to 1-3 on the season.
Mammoth Spring also took the girls’ game 54-34 over BIC. The Lady Bears were led by Megan Upton with 20 points, Stephine Henry scored 17, and Lauren Mitchell chipped in ten. Mammoth Spring remains unbeaten in three games on the year.
Both Bear teams will go to Brockwell Tuesday to face Izard County.

Calico Rock’s girls were able to pick up a victory at home. The Lady Pirates defeated Western Grove 52-44.

Izard County picked up one win as as they hosted Lead Hill for three games.
The Cougars beat the Tigers in the boys’ game 70-36. Justus Cooper was Izard County’s top scorer with 16 points, including three dunks, and Coby Everett ended up with ten points. The Cougars are 5-0 overall and 2-0 in the 1A-2.
Izard County did not fare as well in the girls’ contest as they lost to Lead Hill 43-39. Bethany Simmins led the Lady Cougars with 16 points, and Ashlynn Bratcher added 11. Izard County falls to 3-2 on the season and 0-2 in conference play.
The evening began with Izard County’s junior boys falling to Lead Hill 54-49. The Junior Cougars were led by Gunner Gleghorn with 17 points, and Jude Everett chipped in 14. Izard County’s record drops to 3-2.

Valley Springs opened the Cossatot River Basketball Classic at Cove with a pair of wins over Blevins. The Tigers were able to get past the Hornets in the boys’ game with a 64-58 decision. Valley Springs also won the girls’ game over Blevins 56-43.

The Omaha boys fell short of a home victory. The Eagles ended up losing to Alpena 50-42.
