Former Searcy County sheriff to return to office

Most of the county-wide races in Searcy County were captured by Republicans.

A former Searcy County sheriff has recaptured the seat. Republican Kenny Cassell defeated two independent candidates easily with 84 percent of the votes. Paul Ray Johns was a distant second with nine percent, and Jovey M. Marshall garnered seven percent.

Linda Watts was selected to be the county treasurer with 70 percent of the votes. Independent candidate Theresa Reid finished with 30 percent.

The race for District 1 constable was also won by a Republican. Keith D. Kames ended up with 59 percent to beat Democrat Kenneth Danield with 41 percent.

Danny Hiett was the lone Republican in Searcy County to lose his race. Independent candidate Phyllis Taylor was elected to be the District 2 Justice of the Peace with 61 percent of the votes. Hiett ended up with 39 percent.

Searcy County also had three city races.

Scott Barnett will be the Ward 2, Position 2 alderman in Marshall. Barnett secured 68 percent of the votes over Tad Lee Ogden with 32 percent.

The mayoral race in Leslie went to Talitha Hardin with 66 percent of the votes. Ronald A. Edminston finished with 34 percent.

The race for the mayor’s office in Gilbert ended up in a dead heat. Mitch Mortvedt and Benjamin Fruehauf IV each ended up with 15 votes.
