
Several high school basketball teams were in tournament play Saturday.
The Arvest Bank Tournament got underway in Flippin, and Cotter’s girls were able to advance in the winners bracket with a 51-34 victory over Deer. Kaylee Crownover led the Lady Warriors with 15 points, and Samantha Sanchez added 12. Cotter will meet Melbourne on Monday.
Yellville-Summit was sent to the consolation bracket after falling to Jonesboro Westside 58-40. The Lady Panthers will return to Flippin on Wednesday. The Lady Warriors will be Norfork’s opponent in Monday’s quarterfinals.
Lead Hill won the other girls’ contest by a final of 54-38. The Lady Tigers will be paired with Alpena on Monday.
The boys’ games were highlighted by a matchup between Baxter County schools as Cotter fell to Norfork 54-45. The Warriors will play Wednesday in the consolation bracket, and the Panthers will take on Jonesboro Westside Monday.
Flippin will join Norfork in Monday’s quarterfinals after beating Bruno-Pyatt 72-40. The host Bobcats’ next opponent will be Deer. The Patriots will return to Flippin on Wednesday for a consolation bracket game.
St. Joe played in the first boys’ game of the day and fell to Jasper 63-25. The Wildcats’ next game in the tournament will be Wednesday. The Pirates will meet Yellville-Summit on Monday.
Lead Hill took the court and lost to Kingston 78-42. The Tigers will play a consolation bracket game Wednesday. The Yellowjackets face Alpena on Monday.
Both of Valley Springs’ teams picked up wins on the opening day of the First Service Bank Tournament at Clinton. The Lady Tigers topped Quitman 57-48. The Valley Springs boys edged out Vilonia 64-61.
