PRNewsfoto/Live Nation EntertainmentCher‘s Here We Go Again Tour kicks off January 17 in Estero, Florida. It’s the 72-year-old icon’s first full U.S. trek in five years, and she says she wants to tour as much as she can — while she’s still able to do it.
In a video promoting the tour, Cher says, “There will be some point where I can’t tour, y’know?…And I don’t want to think, ‘I wish I would have done more, now that I can no longer do it,’ because I still enjoy it.”
She adds, “I still sing well, and I just want to do it ’til I’m finished.”
Even if you’ve seen Cher before — maybe on her three-year “Farewell Tour” that turned out not to be — there will be new things to discover on this trek, including material from her new hit album of ABBA covers, Dancing Queen.
“The show’s gonna be a little bit different,” she explains. “I’m adding new songs to it, trying some new things and some new technology.”
But while many artists from Cher’s generation are either retiring from the road or staying put in Vegas, why does the Oscar-winning star want to drag herself all over the U.S. at this point in her career?
“I can’t really say why I wanna tour. I’ve never had a plan,” she says with a laughs. “It’s like someone said: ‘Oh, do you have a five-year plan for your career?’ I don’t have a five-minute plan for my career!”
She then declares, “My favorite thing is being on stage and I’ve had great audiences in my life. It’s like playing tennis. It’s like, if you give off a lot of energy, then they give a lot of energy back.”
