Courtesy of Michael NesmithFollowing the recent announcement that The Monkees‘ Mike Nesmith and Micky Dolenz will mount a 2019 U.S. tour in March, comes word that Nesmith will be playing a series of special headlining shows on the West Coast in January.
The six-date trek will feature Nesmith performing his 1972 solo album And the Hits Just Keep On Comin’, with accompaniment from pedal-steel guitarist Pete Finney, a member of Mike’s side group The First National Band Redux. The tour kicks off January 17 in Seattle and runs through a January 26 concert in Mill Valley, California.
Tickets for the shows go on sale Wednesday, November 21. A limited number of VIP meet & greet packages also will be available.
This will mark the first time Nesmith has toured as a duo since 1975, when he hit the road with his frequent collaborator, pedal-steel guitarist Red Rhodes, with whom he recorded And the Hits Just Keep On Comin’.
And the Hits Just Keep On Comin’ was the fifth album Nesmith released after his departure from The Monkees. It features versions of 10 songs that Mike wrote during or prior to his time in The Monkees, including “Different Drum,” which Linda Ronstadt‘s old band The Stone Poneys had a top 20 hit with in 1967.
As previously reported, Nesmith underwent open-heart surgery earlier this year after experiencing congestive heart failure before a concert with Dolenz this past June. By September, however, Mike was well enough to go on tour with The First National Band Redux.
His upcoming trek with Dolenz, which kicks off March 1, 2019, in Medford, Massachusetts, includes four rescheduled shows that he and Micky postponed because of Mike’s health issue.
