Courtesy of Annerin ProductionsThe new Foreigner-inspired musical Jukebox Hero, which showcases a variety of the band’s classic hits, gets its official world premiere in Toronto in February 2019, after preview engagements this past August in two other Canadian cities — Calgary and Edmonton.
The stage production will visit Toronto’s Ed Mirvish Theatre, beginning with a newly added February 20 performance and running through February 24. Two shows apiece will be held on the 23rd and 24th. Tickets are on sale now at JukeboxHeroMusical.com.
As previously reported, Jukebox Hero: The Musical was written by Ian La Frenais and Dick Clement, whose credits include the films The Commitments and Across the Universe, the HBO series Tracy Takes On… and many other projects.
Among the Foreigner songs featured in the show are “I Want to Know What Love Is,” “Cold as Ice,” “Waiting for a Girl Like You,” “Hot Blooded,” “Urgent,” “Head Games,” “Feels Like the First Time” and, of course, “Juke Box Hero.” All of the tunes were written or co-written by founding Foreigner guitarist Mick Jones.
The musical tells the fictional story of an economically depressed town called Blaydon, Pennsylvania, where a music star named Ryan Perry grew up but has rarely visited since leaving to find fame and fortune. Perry’s father and girlfriend convince him to return to Blaydon to stage a benefit concert to help the town’s financially struggling residents, but in doing so, the singer must confront ghosts from his past.
Foreigner will close out its 2018 tour this week with special reunion concerts on Friday, November 30, in Atlantic City, New Jersey, and Saturday, December 1, in Uncasville, Connecticut. The “Double Vision: Then and Now” shows will feature Foreigner’s current lineup joined by original frontman Lou Gramm and four other former band members.
