
It was a busy Tuesday night for basketball in the area.
At Viola, the visiting Cougars from Izard County won two of three games. The Izard County boys are now 12-0 overall and 6-0 in the 1A-2 Conference after a 74-34 win. Mike Uecker paced the Cougars with 16 points, Justus Cooper scored 14, Coby Everett had 13 and Caleb Faulkner scored 12. The Longhorns fall to 7-6 overall and 4-2 in league play.
In the girl’s game, Viola pulled away late for a 59-38 win. The Lady Longhorns run their record to 10-1 overall and 4-1 in the 1A-2. Izard County, who got 11 points from Maura Thomason and 10 from Alli Marlin, falls to 7-4 and 2-3.
Izard County won the junior boy’s game 40-38 to improve to 5-3 and 1-1. Gunner Gleghorn scored 21 points for the Junior Cougars and Denton Reilly added 12.
Mammoth Spring split their senior high games at home against Melbourne. The Bears won the boy’s contest 56-34 to improve to 4-6 on the season. Jacob Golden led the way with 18 points while Alex Mero followed with 16.
Melbourne won the girl’s game 75-45 to move to 3-1 on the season. Mammoth Spring falls to 5-4. The Lady Bears got 12 points from Stephine Henry and 10 points each from Lauren Mitchell and Megyn Upton.
In other boy’s games:
-Yellville-Summit edged Alpena 54-47. The Panthers improve to 3-1.
-The Calico Rock boys are now 11-0 after topping Norfork 53-38. The Panthers fall to 8-9.
-Flippin was a 58-48 winner over Hackett. The Bobcats are now 8-7.
-Marshall got its first win, 56-29 over Green Forest. The Bobcats improve to 1-6.
-Dora got past Alton 67-53 at the Thayer Tournament to improve to 2-0. Isaac Haney led the way with 24 points.
-Western Grove crushed St. Joe 75-36. The Warriors are now 9-4 while the Wildcats fall to 0-12.
-In a battle of unbeaten teams, Valley Springs was a 77-53 winner over Bergman. The Tigers move their record to 13-0 while the Panthers fall to 9-1.
-Lutie lost to Sparta 63-53 at the Fordland Tournament.
-Harrison defeated Batesville Southside 46-38 to move their record to 2-0.
In girl’s action:
-Norfork is now 11-2 after whipping Calico Rock 80-51. The Lady Pirates fall to 3-7.
-Yellville-Summit lost to Alpena 73-22. The Lady Panthers fall to 1-6.
-Dora downed School of the Ozarks 50-22.
-Lutie lost to Sparta 62-21.
-Valley Springs got past Bergman 45-30 to improve to 11-3. The Lady Panthers are 5-8.
-Jasper won a double-overtime thriller over Lead Hill 47-44.
-Marshall was a 50-33 winner over Green Forest to improve to 4-3.
-The Omaha girls defeated Mount Judea 70-6.
In junior high hoops, Mountain Home won two of three games at home against West Plains. The 8th Grade Bombers are now 5-0 after a 38-25 victory. Jacob Czantskowski topped the scoresheet with 11 points.
West Plains won the 8th grade girl’s game 31-20. Amelia Rucker paced the 8th Grade Lady Bombers with 9 points.
Mountain Home won the 7th grade boy’s contest 40-24. Braiden Dewey had 14 points and Hendrix Hughes 10 for Mountan Home.
