Thursday was a rough day for Mountain Home’s high school basketball teams as they suffered a pair of tournament losses.

The Bomber boys began the Citizens Bank and Trust Tournament at Van Buren with a double overtime loss at the buzzer. Mountain Home ended up falling to Subiaco Academy 74-71.
After the first quarter ended with the Trojans up two, they pulled a little further away later on. Subiaco Academy had a seven-point lead to start the final period, but the Bombers made a comeback and forced overtime after Colton Peters converted an old-fashioned three with 11 seconds remaining. The extra period was a high-scoring affair. Mountain Home had a three-point lead in the waning seconds when Elvis Janga hit from behind the arc before the buzzer to force a second overtime. The Bombers tied the game at 71 with less than a minute left of double overtime, and the Trojans decided to hold for the last shot. Thomas Myers sank a three just before the final buzzer to send Mountain Home to the consolation side of the bracket.
Mat Jones led the Bombers with 24 points, Luke Kruse scored 17, and Wyatt Gilbert added 14. Mountain Home falls to 1-1 on the season, and they’ll meet Bentonville West on Friday.

The Lady Bombers did not fare any better in the semifnals of the Fair Grove Girls’ Basketball Tournament in Missouri. Mountain Home lost to Clever by a final 47-40.
The Lady Jays were up 18-12 at halftime. The rest of the game was played fairly even as Clever went on to post the seven-point win and advance to the title game.
The Lady Bombers drop to 2-1 on the year, and they’ll compete for third place on Friday as they take on Fair Grove.
