Mountain Home voters will select a new mayor in Tuesday’s runoff election.

Baxter County and Circuit Clerk Canda Reese says as of mid afternoon on Monday, 971 ballots had been cast in the early voting that started last Tuesday. Reese says there are 7,257 with active voting registrations in Mountain Home.

Registered voters in Mountain Home are returning to the polls to select between candidates Hillrey Adams and Nancy Osmon as the city’s new mayor. The position became open earlier this year with the announcement by Mayor Joe Dillard he would not be seeking re-election.

The runoff was necessary when neither Adams or Osmon captured a majority of the vote. In the general election in early November, 46 percent of the Mountain Home residents cast their ballots for Adams, while Osmon received 36 percent of the vote. The other 18 percent went to Dave Almond.

Reese says three locations are open Tuesday for casting votes in the race for Mountain Home mayor.

In addition to the city of Mountain Home, three other local government entities still have races to decide.

The race for District 3 justice of the peace on the Izard County Quorum Court will pair republican John Walker with independent candidate Randy “Hank” Sherrell. Walker garnered 45 percent of the vote in the general election, and Sherrell ended up with 33 percent. Democrat Jared Johnson missed the runoff after receiving 22 percent.

In Searcy County, the city of Gilbert will look to break its tie in November in the mayoral race. Mitch Mortvedt and Benjamin Fruehauf IV each received 15 votes on Nov. 6th.

The other local runoff will be in Boone County as Diamond City will decide its alderman for Ward 2, Position 2. Kenneth Bollinger and Cheryl Guthrie advanced to the runoff after getting 39 and 35 percent of the votes respectively. Barbara Mitchell was eliminated in the general election with 26 percent.

Polls are open Tuesday from 7:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.

KTLO, Classic Hits and The Boot will have complete election returns.
