MHHS basketball teams begin tournament action at Cabot

Basketball makes up much of the local Thursday schedule as Mountain Home’s high school teams will begin their second of three in-season tournaments. The Bombers and Lady Bombers will play the first games of the day in the Cabot Pre-Holiday Classic against a pair of schools from Little Rock.
The Mountain Home girls take the court first as their opponent will be J.A. Fair. The Lady Bombers are 2-2 after finishing fourth in the Fair Grove Girls’ Basketball Invitational Tournament with a loss to the host Lady Eagles. Tip-off at CHS Arena is scheduled for 4 p.m.
Mountain Home’s boys will follow as they meet Pulaski Academy. The Bombers, currently 2-2, fell short of a consolation title in the Citizens Bank and Trust Tournament at Van Buren when they lost to the host Pointers in double overtime. Gametime is set for 5:30.

The second-annual Battle of the Border Tournament continues at Mammoth Spring. In the girls’ semifinals, Gainesville will face the host Lady Bears at 4:00, and Thayer takes on Eminence at 7:00. On the boys’ side, Mammoth Spring plays Calico Rock in a semifinal at 5:30, and Mountain Home Christian Academy will be paired with Bakersfield in a consolation semifinal at 8:30.

Gainesville’s boys will compete in the consolation semifinals of the 82nd-annual Mansfield Invitational Basketball Tournament. The Bulldogs go up against Norwood at 5:30.

The Mark Martin Automotive/Lyon College High School Tournament resumes at Becknell Gymnasium in Batesville. On the boys’ bracket, Mountain View meets Cave City at 5:15, at Viola faces Wynne at 7:45. The Viola girls take on Southside Batesville at 6:30.

Two area boys’ teams will be in action in the 62nd-annual Anstaff Bank Holiday Tournament at Green Forest. Omaha will play the host Tigers for the consolation title at 4:00, and Bergman will be matched up with West Fork in the first semifinal at 5:30.

In other high school basketball, Dora’s girls host Chadwick.

Three of Mountain Home’s junior high squads will be in front of the home crowd as they welcome Forrest City to the Twin Lakes Area. The eighth grade boys’ game tips off at 5:00 followed by both freshmen contests.

Elsewhere, Norfork travels to Flippin, Lead Hill entertains Kingston, and Western Grove is home against Jasper.

On the seventh grade level, a jamboree will be held at Marshall.
