A few local teams played Thursday in the Bradleyville Invitational Tournament, and both of Bakersfield’s teams picked up victories. The Lady Lions defeated Lutie 49-18, and the Bakersfield boys routed Gloria Deo Academy 67-35. Lutie’s boys fell to Bradleyville 73-48.
Some local girls’ teams played their first games in the NEA Basketball Tournament.
Viola defeated Mammoth Spring by a final of 44-33. Lauren Mitchell was the Lady Bears’ top scorer with 14 points, and Stephine Henry added ten. Mammoth Spring drops to 9-8 on the season.
Izard County had a rough outing as they lost to Marmaduke 51-35. Bethany Simmons led the Lady Cougars with 16 points. Izard County falls to 12-6 on the year.
Elsewhere, Marshall’s high school teams were swept at Clinton. The Lady Bobcats were edged out by the Lady Yellowjackets 57-54. Marshall also lost the boys’ game 56-48.
