Mountain Home gets swept at Russellville

Thursday was a rough night for the Mountain Home High School basketball teams at Russellville as they were swept in their last games before the Christmas holiday.

The Lady Bombers began by falling to the Lady Cyclones 43-35. Mountain Home struggled all night against Russellville’s press defense, even though they had a three-point lead at halftime. The Lady Cyclones were able to take advantage of 27 Lady Bomber turnovers as they captured the lead in the third quarter and went on to win by eight.
Addison Yates led Mountain Home with 14 points. For Russellville, Anna Myers scored 14.
The Lady Cyclones improve to 4-4 on the season. The Lady Bombers drop to 6-4, and they’ll begin hosting the First Arkansas Bail Bonds Tournament next Thursday when they meet Hermitage.

Mountain Home’s boys followed with a 66-59 loss to Russellville. The game stayed fairly close throughout the first half even though the Bombers went into the locker room down eight. The Cyclones built a double digit advantage in the second half. Mountain Home made a comeback to make it a one-possession game in the final period, but they didn’t have an answer for Ryne Sitkowski who used his 11 fourth quarter points to lead Russellville to the victory.
The Bombers were led by Luke Kruse with 20 points, Mat Jones had 13, and Wyatt Gilbert added 12. For the Cyclones, Sitkowski finished with 20 points, Bowen Mathis ended up with 15, and Trey Allen chipped in 14.
Russellville is now 5-4 on the year. Mountain Home falls to 2-7, and they’ll take on Mountain Home Christian Academy next Thursday in the First Arkansas Bail Bonds Tournament.
