In June of 1969, the gay community launched a series of violent protests following a police raid on the gay club The Stonewall Inn in New York City. Within a few weeks, local residents created activist groups. Within six months, three newspapers promoting gay rights were created. The next year, the first gay pride marches took place in New York, L.A. San Francisco and Chicago.
Earlier this month, Madonna visited The Stonewall Inn. Now, The Pride Live Official Instagram account has posted a photo of Madonna, along with the caption, “Rebel. Maverick. Barrier breaker. Artist. Trailblazer. Icon. Activist. Mother. Ally. Stonewall Ambassador. Today we are insanely proud to announce Madonna is a Stonewall Ambassador supporting Stonewall Day + the 50th anniversary of Stonewall!!”
The gay pop culture website Towleroad notes that in an Instagram Live story, Pride Live Official also wrote, “So much magic coming up in 2019. Thank you Team ID.”

“Team ID” is the public relations firm that Madonna just hired to represent her. Also, her new album, which she plans to release in 2019, is rumored to be titled Magic.
There’s now speculation that Madonna will perform at Worldpride, an event being held this summer in New York City that will mark the 50th anniversary of Stonewall.
