A Lakeview man, 33-year-old David Simmons, has been arrested and charged in connection with allegedly taking items from the victim of a fatal vehicle crash in October. Simmons has been charged with felony counts of tampering with physical evidence and theft of property.

Lakeview Police Chief David Hotchkiss says Simmons is alleged to have taken items, including jewelry and a cellphone, from the crash victim, whom he described as the Lakeview man’s girlfriend.

The Lakeview police chief says Simmons was not traveling with the victim at the time of the crash. However, there was only a brief period between the crash and the time Grover-Township fire and rescue personnel arrived at the scene on State Highway 178 near Stone Dog Lane. The window of time is estimated at four minutes.

Simmons was arrested and booked into the Baxter County Detention Center Christmas Eve on a bond of $10,000.

Chief Hotchkiss says the investigation into the incident is continuing.
