Mick Jagger has collaborated with his girlfriend, ballerina Melanie Hamrick, on an original ballet set to the music of The Rolling Stones that’s expected to open in New York this spring, according to a report from Page Six.
A “dance source” tells Page Six that Hamrick, a top dancer with the American Ballet Theatre, is taking a leave of absence from the company until the spring to focus “on choreographing her first ballet — an original piece set to Rolling Stones music, edited by Mick Jagger, with selections [including] ‘You Can’t Always Get What You Want,’ ‘Paint It Black’ and ‘She’s a Rainbow.'”
Word has it the production will premiere this March at a ballet festival hosted by the Mariinsky Theatre in St. Petersburg, Russia, and then will make its U.S. debut on April 18 at Lincoln Center in New York City at a gala for the Youth America Grand Prix (YAGP). The YAGP features student ballet scholarship auditions, performances, workshops, master classes and more.
The New York City gala is scheduled just two days before The Rolling Stones will kick off their 2019 No Filter Tour of the U.S., which starts at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida, and runs through a June 25 concert at Soldier Field in Chicago.
The 75-year-old Jagger and 31-year-old Hamrick have been dating since 2014 and have a two-year-old son named Dev.
