Local basketball teams have mixed results in tournament openers

Two local boys’ basketball teams opened play in the Cabool Holiday Tournament on Wednesday.
It was a rough start for Gainesville in their first game. The Bulldogs fell to Plato by a final of 70-57.
Dora will be the Eagles’ next opponent in the tournament after routing Summersville 63-23. Isaac Haney led the Falcons with 17 points.

Gainesville and Dora sent their girls’ teams to begin action in the Mountain Grove Holiday Tournament.
The Lady Bulldogs had a tough first day in the tournament. Gainesville lost to Willow Springs 63-34.
Dora fell in the first game of the day to Plato by a score of 60-52. The Lady Falcons were led by Cassidy Hambelton with 27 points, and Riley Collins added 21.

Two local boys’ teams began action in the Bad Boy Mowers Ronnie Brogdon Classic at Highland.
Izard County was able to invoke the mercy rule as they pounded Har-Ber 84-54. Justus Cooper paced the Cougars with 31 points and 15 rebounds, Coby Everett scored 23 points, and Caleb Faulkner chipped in 17 points and dished out ten assists. Izard County improves to 19-2 on the season.
Melbourne did not fare as well in the earlier contest. The Bearkatz suffered an 81-44 loss to Ensworth from Nashville, Tennessee.
