KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) A Missouri mega-donor has given $1 million to a political action committee that supports Republican Gov. Mike Parson running to keep his seat.
Prolific political donor Rex Sinquefield donated $850,000 to Uniting Missouri PAC this past week and another $150,000 to the PAC earlier this month.
Parson has not yet said whether he’ll run for governor in 2020. But Uniting Missouri PAC Chairman John Hancock says the group hopes he will.
Parson assumed the governorship in June after former Gov. Eric Greitens resigned amid personal and political scandal. Parson had been lieutenant governor.
Direct donations to state candidates in Missouri are capped at $2,600. But donors can still give unlimited amounts to PACs.
Hancock says the group is grateful for Sinquefield’s donation.
