LINCOLN, Ark. (AP) A former police chief in northwest Arkansas has pleaded not guilty to felony charges of tampering with evidence and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Brian Key was arrested earlier this month on the charges. He was fired in October as the police chief of Lincoln.
Authorities say an investigation began Sept. 25 over possible evidence mishandling after confiscated prescription medication was found to be missing. According to state police, drug paraphernalia was found in Key’s police vehicle.
Key had been with the Lincoln police for almost 15 years, becoming chief in August. Fort Smith TV station KFSM reports that Key entered his plea Wednesday and is next due in court March 6.
