Local basketball teams continued tournament play Friday

Two local boys’ teams continued action in the Cabool Holiday Tournament on Friday. Gainesville was eliminated from the consolation side of the bracket as they fell to Alton 77-71. Dora advanced to the title game after beating Eminence 71-54.

Dora’s girls were able to move to the consolation final of the Mountain Grove Holiday Tournament. The Lady Falcons topped Houston 46-39.

The Mammoth Spring boys fell short of the Division I championship of the NEA Invitational Basketball Tournament at Jonesboro. The Bears lost to Ridgefield Christian 67-53. Alex Mero and Zack Flynn were Mammoth Spring’s top scorers with 16 points each. The Bears fall to 12-9 on the season.

Calico Rock’s boys were eliminated from the Greers Ferry Lake Classic at Shirley. The Pirates fell in the semifinals to Mount Vernon-Enola 66-63.

Two area boys’ teams were back in action in the Bad Boy Mowers Ronnie Brogdon Classic at Highland.
Izard County lost to Conway 63-54 in the semifinals. Justus Cooper led the Cougars with 21 points, Caleb Faulkner scored 16, and Coby Everett added 12. Izard County falls to 20-3 on the season.
Melbourne ended up with an eighth place finish. The Bearkatz fell to Har-Ber 69-35.
