Mike Colucci; Austin LordAs the world prepares to celebrate the arrival of 2019, a variety of veteran music acts will ring in the New Year onstage tonight. Among the stars scheduled to play concerts perform on December 31 are a number of Rock & Roll Hall of Famers, among them Billy Joel, Peter Frampton, Lynyrd Skynyrd and The O’Jays.
For the last few years, the Piano Man has celebrated New Year’s Eve by performing in Florida, but this year, he’s in a New York state of mind. He’ll play the Nassau Coliseum — now official known as NYCB Live/Home of the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum — on his home base of Long Island, New York. The show will mark the 25th anniversary of the last time Billy played that venue on New Year’s Eve.
Frampton will be taking part in his adopted hometown of Nashville’s free New Year’s Eve concert, dubbed Jack Daniel’s Music City Midnight, which will be held at Bicentennial Capitol Mall State Park. Other artists set to perform at the event include country superstar Keith Urban, Brett Young, Judah & the Lion and the Fisk Jubilee Singers.
Skynyrd will close out the 2018 portion of its Last of the Street Survivors Farewell Tour with a concert at WinStar World Casino at Thackerville, Oklahoma.
As for The O’Jays, they’re teaming up with The Commodores for a show at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Atlantic City, New Jersey.
Other famous veteran rock artists playing New Year’s Eve concerts include Peter Frampton, ex-Guess Who frontman Burton Cummings and Kool & the Gang, War and J. Geils Band singer Peter Wolf.
