Courtesy of Motown RecordsSome official details have been released about the recently reported CBS concert special that will celebrate the 60th anniversary of Motown Records.
The special, set to be taped in L.A. two days after the 61st Grammy Awards, has been been dubbed Motown 60: A Grammy Celebration. It’ll be held at L.A.’s Microsoft Theater and will air on April 21.
Tickets for the concert, which will feature an all-star lineup, go on sale to the general public this Saturday, February 2, at 10 a.m. PT via AXS.com. Presale tickets will be available starting at 1 p.m. PT today and can be accessed using the code MOTOWN60.
The performers will be announced during Grammy Week, which kicks off this Monday, February 4.
Motown 60: A Grammy Celebration follows the memorable 1984 NBC special Motown 25: Yesterday, Today, Forever, which famously featured Michael Jackson performing his Moonwalk dance move. There was also a two-part ABC special, Motown 40: The Music Is Forever, which aired in 1998.
Last month, a Grammy-organized Aretha Franklin tribute called Aretha! A Grammy Celebration was taped at the Shrine Auditorium in L.A. That event, which included appearances and performances by Smokey Robinson, Patti LaBelle, Celine Dion, Jennifer Hudson, Alicia Keys, John Legend, Rob Thomas, Janelle Monáe and others, will air March 10 on CBS.
