Courtesy of The AlarmWelsh rockers The Alarm will be touring the U.S. this summer with two other bands from the 1980s U.K. new wave scene — Modern English and Jay Aston’s Gene Loves Jezebel. The Sigma LXXXV Tour 2019 will visit nearly 40 cities, kicking off July 19 concert in Austin, Texas, and running through a September 8 date in St. Petersburg, Florida.

Alarm frontman Mike Peters says he expects to have “an incredible time” on the trek, which he says will show that all three groups are still making vibrant, powerful music.

“[W]e’re really trying to highlight the fact that all our bands are still really as active as we’ve ever been,” Peters tells ABC Radio. “We might have a sort of omnipresence on heritage radio through the music we made at a certain time, but we’re still…all making brand-new music…and it’s a chance to show what our generation can still contribute.”

Mike adds, “[W]e come from an era that gave us Live Aid and all those life-changing events that sprung up from the ’80s…We can pass a lot on of what we’ve learned through our experiences of being in bands that have had lifelong careers, and with an audience that have stayed with us.”

The trek’s name eludes to The Alarm’s upcoming studio album, Sigma, which will be released June 28.

Peters says much of Sigma was written while his wife was being treated for breast cancer as he continued his own ongoing battle with leukemia.

“They’re reflective of my life and our life as a family,” Peters notes, “but I think through that, it relates to other [people] who are dealing with the same dilemmas we’ve had to face.”
