Former Who, Faces and Small Faces drummer Kenney Jones
Credit: Richard Young and British folk legend Donovan will take part in a U.K. charity concert that will salute late Rolling Stones guitarist Brian Jones, who died 50 years ago this month.
The show is the 2019 edition of the Rock ‘n’ Horsepower benefit, scheduled for August 17 at the Hurtwood Park Polo Club in Surrey, England.
Other artists on the concert bill include The Waterboys, Sex Pistols bassist Glen Matlock, founding Damned members Brian James and Rat Scabies, and Brian Jones’ grandson, Joolz Jones.
The event will raise money for two charities: the David Lynch Foundation, which provides Transcendental Meditation programs for war veterans, in-need children and others, and the Racehorse Sanctuary, which aids retired racehorses.
The star-studded concert will serve as the finale of the day-long event, which also will feature polo matches, an exhibition of high-performance cars and more.
In a post on his official Facebook page, Kenney — who’s the chairman of the Hurtwood Park Polo Club — says of the concert, “Means a lot to me to be a part of this amazing tribute to Brian Jones. I did a few sessions with him, [and] what I will always remember about him was being a nice guy…he created a few of the most memorable songs of that time and to this day.”
Kenney will be performing with his group The Jones Gang.
At the 2014 edition of Rock ‘n’ Horsepower benefit, Jones reunited with his former Who band mates Roger Daltrey and Pete Townshend, while in 2015, he performed with fellow Faces members Rod Stewart and Ronnie Wood.
