Credit: Karsten StaigerAn official trailer for Foreigner‘s upcoming concert film — featuring performances from two of the band’s Double Vision: Then and Now reunion shows — has debuted online. The movie premieres tonight at 8 p.m. ET on DirecTV and some other broadcast outlets, and will then be released in October as a home video, along with a companion album.
Double Vision: Then and Now captures Foreigner’s current lineup performing with all the band’s surviving original members during an October 6-7, 2017, stand at the Soaring Eagle Casino Resort in Mount Pleasant, Michigan.
The shows featured a set by the current lineup, led by founding guitarist/songwriter Mick Jones, and a shorter set featuring Jones joined by original frontman Lou Gramm, multi-instrumentalist Ian McDonald, drummer Dennis Elliott and keyboardist Al Greenwood, plus longtime bassist Rick Wills. To end the concerts, both lineups teamed up for a two-song encore.
The trailer boasts footage of the two lineups playing various Foreigner classics, glimpses of the encore performances — including a rendition of “I Want to Know What Love Is” featuring a full choir — and interview segments with various band members, past and present.
In one interview clip, Gramm says of Jones, “We’ve had our ups and down. In spite of all that, I like him a lot. He’s a great friend, love him and it’s always great to work with him.”
In another segment, Jones reflects on getting to perform with his old band mates again.
“[You] look across stage and you see a sight that you haven’t seen for…12 years, maybe 13 years, it’s cool,” he declares. “Everybody’s really locked in and playing tight.”
Foreigner has four more Double Vision: Then and Now shows scheduled in October, and Jones tells Billboard that the band will keep doing them “on a limited basis.”
