Veteran pop singer/songwriter Stephen Bishop will release a new studio album on August 30, titled We’ll Talk About It Later in the Car.

Bishop says the album originally was intended to feature a collection of demos that he’d recorded early in his career, but as the project came together he decided to give the songs the full studio treatment.

The album will be available for pre-order on August 9, the same day Bishop will release the record’s first single, “Like Mother Like Daughter.” An accompanying video for the tune also will debut around that time.

Among the other songs on We’ll Talk About It Later in the Car is “Almost Home,” a song Stephen co-wrote for a reboot of the Benji movie franchise.

“I’m an unabashed dog lover,” Bishop explains, “so I jumped at the chance to write the song with my friend [Emmy-winning film composer] Curt Sobel.”

We’ll Talk About It Later in the Car also features a tune called “In Love with a Violent Man,” which Bishop says “is about a woman who’s trying to get away from her abusive husband.”

In addition, Bishop recorded a cover of “Someone Else,” which is the first song ever penned by legendary songwriter Jimmy Webb, written when he was 12 years old.

“It’s just one of the saddest songs you’ll ever hear,” Stephen maintains.

Reflecting on the diversity of musical styles on We’ll Talk About It Later in the Car, Bishop notes, “I was always influenced by The Beatles. One of the things I always admired about them was their choice of variety in their music. That was what I tried to do with this album…A little bit of this, a little bit of that. I hope you enjoy the journey.”
