As crews continue to repair a water main break, the Arkansas Department of Health has confirmed the Baxter-Marion Rural Water Association has issued a boil water order for its entire system. According to system president Mike Scrima, the order is a precautionary measure due to the possibility of contaminated water entering the distribution system as a result of the partial loss in normal system pressure.
Scrima says a main break was detected from the pump station at Midway to the tank on County Road 15 in Promise Land. The association was forced to shut off the water to all of its customers in the Three Brothers, Promise Land and Oakland areas. The estimated time of restoration of service is Saturday at noon.
Under the boil order, all affected customers are urged to briskly boil water used for drinking or food preparation for a minimum of one minute. All ice cubes should be discarded, and only boiled water should be used for making ice.
The boil water order will remain in effect until the problem is corrected, an adequate disinfected level is established throughout the distribution system and a bacteriological survey shows the water is safe to drink.
