The work of Mountain Home High School student Elise Kerns has been selected as the first place winner in the print category for the 2019 Congressional Art Competition in the first district. Beth Ivens serves as Kerns’ instructor. The announcement of Kerns’ selection was made by First District Congressman Rick Crawford.
Each spring, the Congressional Institute sponsors the Congressional Art Competition, a nationwide high school visual arts competition to recognize and encourage artistic talent across our nation.
Since the competition began in 1982, more than 650,000 high school students have participated. This is the eighth year Congressman Crawford has sponsored this competition for his district.
Kerns’ submission was one of 300 artwork submissions from over 30 participating schools in the first congressional district.
The judges selected a winner from each of the seven medium categories and one overall winner whose artwork will be displayed for one year at the U.S. Capitol.
