A Stone County man, 22-year-old Johnathan Gage Brothers of Mountain View, has been arrested and charged in connection with an incident in which he allegedly choked a female, bent her head back attempting to snap her neck and bashed her head on a concrete floor.

According to the probable cause affidavit, a Stone County Sheriff’s officer was dispatched to the Stone County Medical Center on the evening of Aug. 5 where he met the victim in the emergency room.

The woman told him the assault allegedly occurred at her residence along Cedar Avenue in Mountain View.

She told the officer Brothers, whom she identified as her boyfriend, awoke to find her on her cellphone and took it away from her while punching her in the face. She said when she attempted to retrieve the phone, Brothers continued to assault her.

When she asked for the phone to call the police, she was allegedly punched in the face again. The woman said when she told Brothers to leave, he began choking her a second time, she could not breathe and believed she was going to die.

Later, she said she was able to jump from a bedroom window and ran to the city park where she hid from Brothers.

The Mountain View man has been charged with felony counts of first-degree false imprisonment and aggravated assault on a family or household member, as well as a misdemeanor count of first-degree interference with emergency communication. He was also charged as a habitual offender.

Brothers’ bond was set at $30,000.
