The Cars lead guitarist Elliot Easton posted a message on his official Facebook page on Monday thanking fans for their condolences regarding the death of the group’s frontman Ric Ocasek, who passed away Sunday at the age of 75.
“Thank you friends, for the overwhelming outpouring of emails, texts and posts of condolence and sympathy,” Easton writes. “I have read them all, and there are so many that I may not be able to respond to all of them, but please know that your reaching out at this incredibly difficult time has meant so much to me, and has been a comfort in our profoundly sad time of grief.”
Elliot adds, “The Cars are a family, for better or worse, and I lost my big brother yesterday.”
Easton is one of three remaining surviving members of The Cars, along with keyboardist Greg Hawkes and drummer David Robinson. Bassist/singer Benjamin Orr died of pancreatic cancer in October 2000 at the age of 53.
In April of 2018, Ocasek, Easton, Hawkes and Robinson reunited for the last time to perform at the Cleveland ceremony celebrating The Cars’ induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.
