A Texas man, 49-year-old Alejandro Hernandez of Arlington, is set to be returned to Arkansas to stand trial in connection with a 2014 fatal motorcycle accident.Searcy County Sheriff Kenny Cassell says law enforcement has been searching for Hernandez since October 2015. At that time, he was charged with negligent homicide involving a vehicle, drugged driving/under the influence, careless and prohibited driving and not having a driver’s license.

Sheriff Cassell says Hernandez was involved in a motorcycle fatality accident on Oct. 25, 2014 on State Highway 16, approximately 3 miles from Witts Springs.

According to the report by Arkansas State Police Trooper Joseph Gilliland, evidence found at the scene supported Hernandez’s involvement in the crash with the Harley Davidson motorcycle he was driving and a Kawasaki motorcycle driven by 25-year-old Michael Lucas of Lonoke. Lucas died as a result of the crash.

A third motorcyclist, who was driving with Lucas at the time of the accident, provided the ASP with a video of the collision supporting the evidence found at the scene.

The Arkansas State Crime Lab toxicology report showed Hernandez had benzodiazepines in his system at the time of the accident.

Following the accident, Hernandez left Arkansas and was not located until last Saturday when he was taken into custody by officers with the Tarrant County, Texas Sheriff’s Department. Hernandez was arrested and charged with being a fugitive from Searcy County. After appearing before a Texas magistrate, he refused extradition back to Arkansas.

Cassell says Carol Crews, prosecuting attorney for the 20th Judicial District, and Benjamin Fruehauf, deputy prosecutor, are in the process of having Hernandez returned to Arkansas to answer the charges filed against him. He remains in custody.
