One of Mountain Home High School’s greatest all-around athletes will be honored this weekend. Allen Knight will be inducted into the MHHS Athletic Hall of Honor as a member of the Class of 2019.

Knight graduated from Mountain Home as the Outstanding Athlete of the Year in 1966. He was on the boys’ basketball team that won the state championship that year. Knight also played football and baseball, and during his senior year, he became a part of the district’s inaugural track and field team.

After high school, Knight went on to serve in the United States Army from 1968 through 1970. He completed a one-year tour of duty in South Vietnam and received two Army commendation medals, including one for valor. He later would have a 30-year career in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Knight says his time at Mountain Home High School was beneficial for preparing him for adult life.

Knight’s two sons, Brad and Scott, were also raised as Bombers. Scott Knight was selected as an All-State baseball player at Mountain Home, and both boys earned baseball scholarships.

Knight has also given his time to developing youth baseball in Mountain Home. He helped build the fields at Clysta Willett Park and Lester White Field at Cooper Park, and he has coached every age from tee ball to American Legion baseball. Knight says he understands how crucial youth sports are to helping local kids succeed in life.
