The rain, sleet and snow which fell Monday has led to many cancellations Tuesday, and the arctic front which brought the wintry precipitation has ushered in not only the coldest air of the season, but record-setting cold. The low Tuesday morning at the KTLO, Classic Hits and The Boot studios, the official reporting station in Mountain Home for the National Weather Service, dipped to 13 degrees, which is a new record low for the date. The previous record was 17 degrees set in 1921.
The wintry precipitation Monday is the first recorded for the date. One-quarter of an inch of snow was recorded. The rain, sleet and snow, when melted down, totaled 49 hundredths of an inch of liquid precipitation.
Many schools closed early Monday when the wintry precipitation started falling in the early afternoon. Many of the same schools are closed Tuesday. You can view the complete list of closings and cancellations, along with road conditions for Arkansas and Missouri, at ktlo.com/cancellations brought to you by Baxter Regional Medical Center.
Roads in the Twin Lakes Area for the most part are dry Tuesday morning. There are some slick spots on secondary roads and parking lots. Many sidewalks, along with decks and porches, are snow and ice covered. Law enforcement is advising motorists to use caution.
