MH picks up junior high basketball victories over Wynne

Mountain Home hosted Wynne on Thursday for junior high basketball action at the Hangar.

In the freshmen boys’ game, the Junior Bombers squeaked by the Junior Yellowjackets 34-33. Masen Walker led Mountain Home with 17 points. The Junior Bombers improve to 3-5 on the season, and they’ll travel to Forrest City on Monday.

Mountain Home also took the freshmen girls’ contest 37-23 over Wynne. The Junior Lady Bombers were led by Cate Jackson with 13 points. Mountain Home is now 4-2 on the year.

Mountain Home dominated the seventh grade girls’ game with a 47-8 decision. Ali Czanstkowski was the Seventh Grade Lady Bombers’ top scorer with 13 points, and Sarah Williams added 10.

On the high school level, Viola’s girls won their opener in the Williams Baptist University High School Tournament after beating Corning 59-38 at Walnut Ridge. A.J. McCandlis paced the Lady Longhorns with 21 points, Keyaira Moore scored 16, and Lindsey Browning chipped in 11.

The Izard County boys suffered their second loss of the season with their opening game in the Barry Pruitt Hurricane Classic at Jonesboro. The Cougars fell to Har-Ber 78-61.

Gainesville was able to sweep a pair of games at home over Koshkonong. The Bulldogs invoked the mercy rule in the boys’ game, as they pounded the Blue Jays 81-26. The girls’ contest needed overtime, but Gainesville was able to come out on top 70-67 over Koshkonong.
