An administrator in the Mountain Home School District is receiving statewide recognition for her time as the school’s athletic director. Mountain Home Kindergarten Principal Janet Wood will be enshrined into the Arkansas High School Atheltic Administrator’s Hall of Fame later this year.
Wood’s induction will come 11 years after she was enshrined into the Arkansas High School Coaches Association Hall of Fame. She says she was surprised to learn she will be inducted into something she helped create.
Listen:
Wood was Mountain Home’s athletic director from 2004 to 2015. During that time, the district had 12 state championships between all of its programs. Wood gives credit to the coaches surrounding her during her tenure.
Listen:
Wood says another aspect of her time running the athletic department was networking with other schools throughout the state.
Listen:
In 2015, Wood left her A.D. position to become the district’s research and development specialist. She has been the kindergarten principal since 2017.
Wood’s former office inside Bomber Gymnasium has been occupied by Mitch Huskey since 2015. Huskey was promoted after previously serving as the head coach of the Mountain Home High School boys’ basketball program, and Wood says he was the perfect person to succeed her.
Listen:
Wood will receive her induction July 10 at 6:30 during the installation banquet at Horner Hall in the Hot Springs Convention Center. For ticket information, contact Nicole Cunningham at 501-955-2500.
