A lightning strike is the suspected cause of a fire to a rental cabin in Searcy County. According to Sheriff Kenny Cassell, the Gold Mine Hotel on Grandview Road near Marshall was a total loss following the early Sunday morning fire.

Sheriff Cassell says a witness residing near the cabin reported hearing thunder and a large boom sometime between 3 and 4 a.m. It’s believed lightning struck a nearby tree resulting in the fire. The sheriff adds there were no fatalities, as the cabin was sitting vacant.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
