Beauty salons, barbershops return to action

Hair and nail salons, tattoo parlors, medical spas, and massage clinics have reopened, after being closed due to the pandemic. KTLO, Classic Hits & The Boot’s Kelly Connelly has this report.

Last week, Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson announced these businesses could reopen this past Wednesday, if special health regulations mandated by the state Department of Health are observed. The announcement follows over one month of temporary closure to salons and clinics in the state.

Many stylists are excited to go back to work. While coloring the hair of a client, One on One Salon owner Sherry Weese says she went back to work as soon as she was allowed.

Many Arkansans are trying to book an appointment with their hair stylist as soon as possible. Weese is working overtime to accommodate her customers’ needs.

Cleaning between clients adds to hairstylists’ long work hours. Salon workers are following the Department of Health’s regulations to minimize the spread of the coronavirus. Weese says she does not mind following the health protocol, because she wants her clients to be safe.

The Department of Health asks salon employees to track the names and contact information of everyone they have served in the past month. Customers who have had symptoms of COVID-19 or who have come into contact with someone who has the virus must wait two weeks before being served.
