A long-time Mountain Home Public Schools employee has been awarded one of the district’s highest honors. Hackler Intermediate School Library Media Specialist Melissa Steiner has been selected as the 2020 Teacher of the Year.
Steiner says she has had a range of emotions since learning about receiving the award.

Steiner is wrapping up her 10th year at Hackler. She spent her prior 17 years in the Mountain Home School District with Nelson-Wilks-Herron Elementary School.
Steiner was also a graduate of Mountain Home High School Career Academies, along with her husband Rick and son Jackson. She says it gives her pleasure to serve as a teacher and contribute to the school district where she received her education.

More recently, Steiner has become known for her YouTube channel titled “Mrs. Steiner Reads.” She says that project got started last year, after she came down with an illness and lost her voice.

Out of the other five finalists for the award, two also work in Hackler Intermediate School. Wendy Spivey teaches third grade, and Lindsay Kincade is a fourth grade teacher. The remaining finalists include kindergarten teacher Kellye Conly, first grade teacher Christy King and second grade teacher Patti Bell.
