Mountain Home has lost its third prominent attorney in the last few weeks. Seventy-nine-year-old Terry Poynter died June 7 in Texas. He and his wife had moved to McAllen, Texas, two years ago.

Poynter practiced law in Mountain Home 45 years, which included serving as the Mountain Home city attorney, deputy prosecutor and as the prosecutor for Baxter and four surrounding counties. He was a member of the Arkansas Supreme Court, Board of Legal Specialization and served as president of the Baxter-Marion County Bar Association. He also served on the Mountain Home City Council and Mountain Home Planning Commission. Governor Bill Clinton appointed Poynter as an Arkansas Bar Examiner and as special chief justice of the Arkansas Supreme Court

Poynter was in the first group of inductees in the Mountain Home Education Foundation’s Hall of Honor and was inducted into the MHHS Athletic Hall of Honor as part of the 1957 football team that went 11-1.

A private graveside service for Terry Poynter will be held with a public memorial service to be announced at a later date.
