When the Loyal Order of Moose began in 1888, it started primarily as a men’s social club, but it has become more since then. Many charities have benefited from lodges all throughout the United States, including the Moose Lodge #1953 in Mountain Home.

Moose Lodge ritual and former governor Terry Mason was a recent guest of the Talk of the Town on KTLO-FM, and he says most of the organization’s fundraising efforts have benefited the Mooseheart Child City and School near Chicago.

Children residing at Mooseheart stay there until they’re 18 years old. Many go on to attend college, and others will join the military.

While a chunk of the money raised by the lodge in Mountain Home goes to Mooseheart, Mason says they also try to benefit nonprofits and other organizations in the Twin Lakes Area.
