The Mountain Home Police Department has become just the 15th in the state to be awarded a certificate of accreditation by the Arkansas Association of Chiefs of Police. The prestigious honor comes nearly two years after the process started.

Mountain Home Police Chief Carry Manuel says it was a very rigorous undertaking to apply for the accreditation and involved many employees.

The process also included three in-person visits by members from the association.

Manuel says the department, after going through the process, was able to learn more about its strengths and weaknesses.

The Mountain Home police chief says the members of his department went through the process to elevate operations, which in turn should provide better services to the community.

The accreditation is good for three years, and then, the department will undergo another audit.
