REPUBLIC, Mo. (AP) – A southwest Missouri man arrested seven times in the past for domestic assault has been charged in the beating death of a woman with whom he had a relationship, authorities said.
Shane Mackey, 46, was charged Tuesday with second-degree murder in the death of 42-year-old Racheal Sanders. She was found dead Monday at her home in Republic.
Court documents say Mackey and Sanders were in a relationship, The Springfield News-Leader reported.
Republic police who went to Sanders’ home found her dead while Mackey was trying to perform CPR, according to a probable cause statement. Police said the house was in disarray and blood was visible.
The statement said Mackey gave officers conflicting accounts of what happened but authorities determined Sanders likely died from being assaulted by Mackey.
Mackey was arrested for domestic assault seven times between 2002 and 2013, including at least one incident involving Sanders, according to the statement. He was given probation twice.
Mackey is being held in the Greene County Jail without bond. Online records don’t name an attorney for him.
