FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (AP) – The northwest Arkansas home that Bill and Hillary Clinton first lived in as a married couple is closing as a museum, at least temporarily.

Fayetteville’s Advertising and Promotions Commission decided in September to scale back programming at the Clinton House Museum to save money because of the coronavirus pandemic.

The Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette reports that exhibits for 2021 have been canceled and most of the staff has been laid off. But Mark Henry, president of the museum’s board, said the hope is to reopen the facility at some point in the current year.

“If that means being open for special events only with special collections, based upon the status of the pandemic, then OK,” he told the newspaper. “If it also means a broader opening, we’re excited to do that.”

The Clintons lived in the home in Fayetteville when they both taught law at the University of Arkansas. They were married in the home’s living room in October 1975.
