The Mountain Home High School basketball teams opened 5A-West action on Tuesday with a split at Alma. Matt Sharp has the details.
Listen:
The evening began with the Lady Bombers capturing a low-scoring game over the Lady Airedales with a 34-25 decision. The two teams exchanged leads four times in the first half, and Alma went into the locker room up four. Mountain Home took the fifth and final lead in the third quarter, as its defense held Alma scoreless in the period. For much of the final quarter, the Lady Bombers milked the clock, by holding the ball on their way to a nine-point win.
No one was in double figures for either team. Mountain Home improves to 2-10 on the season and 1-0 in the 5A-West. The Lady Airedales fall to 6-5 and 0-1.
The night was not as successful for the Bomber boys, as they fell to Alma 68-60. The Airedales rarely missed in the first half, as they hit eight three-pointers. Alma’s lead was over 20 at one point in the third quarter, but Mountain Home came storming back cutting the margin back to seven. Eventually, the Bombers were forced to foul near the end, and the Airedales hit nine of 11 from the charity stripe in the final quarter to secure the eight-point victory.
Wyatt Gilbert led Mountain Home with 29 points, and Jake McGehee added 14. For Alma, Logan Taylor scored 25 points, Nathan Whalen had 18, Drew Battles provided 14, and Hunter McAlister chipped in 11 points.
The Bombers drop to 4-6 on the year and 0-1 in the league. The Airedales are now 5-2 and 1-0.
Both Mountain Home teams will have the third of four straight road trips Friday, as they head to Siloam Springs.
