MH girls’ comeback attempt falls short at Greenbrier

A comeback attempt fell short for the Mountain Home High School girls’ basketball team came up short on Tuesday at Greenbrier. Matt Sharp has the details.

The Lady Bombers ended up falling to the Lady Panthers 45-37. Greenbrier jumped out early hitting seven three-pointers in the first half and went into the locker room leading Mountain Home 34-12. The tide turned in the third quarter, as the Lady Panthers were held to two points. The Lady Bombers were able to limit second chance opportunities, as they outrebounded Greenbrier 31-15 in the game. Mountain Home cut the margin to five in the final period, as the Lady Panthers were again held to one field goal, but Greenbrier was able to pull away by going 7 of 8 from the free throw line en route to an eight-point win.

Kate Gilbert was 12 of 12 from the charity stripe, as she led the Lady Bombers with 14 points. For the Lady Panthers, Emma Rehm and Carlie Reynolds scored 10 points each.

Greenbrier improves to 13-5 on the season and 3-4 in the 5A-West. Mountain Home drops to 2-15 and 1-5 and will return to the Hangar on Friday to face Alma.

The Mountain Home boys’ games with Greenbrier and Alma this week have been postponed. There is no word on if either game will be made up.

In other 5A-West boys’ action, Vilonia beat Russellville 78-72 in overtime, Siloam Springs topped Van Buren 57-47, and Greenwood got past Alma 43-37. On the girls’ side, Vilonia defeated Russellville 65-41, Siloam Springs edged out Van Buren 44-41, and Greenwood routed Alma 75-28.
