A Marion County man, 46-year-old Jimmy K. Akins of Flippin, was taken into custody Wednesday in connection with an altercation in early December in which he and his alleged female victim were both stabbed.
According to the probable cause affidavit, law enforcement was dispatched to a residence along West Fourth Street in Yellville in the early morning hours of Dec. 7 for an ongoing physical domestic incident.
Marion County Sheriff’s Office dispatch advised a male individual, later identified as Akins, was holding a knife to a female’s side. A short time later, the responding officers were advised Akins had reportedly stabbed the female victim. This report was followed by a second advising Akins has reportedly stabbed himself.
When the deputies arrived on scene, with one reporting his weapon was drawn, another male ran from the residence yelling Akins was on the floor in a puddle of blood.
The deputies found Akins face down on the floor with a large knife nearby. He reportedly did not respond to multiple commands to see his hands.
With one deputy covering his fellow officer, the second one moved in, kicked the knife away from Akins and retrieved his left arm from under the Flippin man’s body.
The movement led to a large amount of blood pooling from beneath Akins’ head.
The deputy reported Akins was observed to have shallow breathing, and a large stab wound to the left side of his neck area was “bleeding profusely.”
The deputies administered first aid, as they waited for emergency medical services personnel to arrive. EMS personnel prepped Akins for transport to the Yellville City Park to be airlifted.
The female victim showed the officers where Akins had allegedly stabbed her in the stomach, where a small puncture wound was observed. The victim declined medical attention.
Attention was then directed to the man officers met upon arrival and observed a deep cut to his finger. A second ambulance was requested, with the male transported due to his “alarming high blood pressure.”
Statements were gathered from the female victim and the homeowner who was present during the altercation.
The victim advised she had an active order of protection against Akins, saying had been dating off and on for six years. She noted a history of alleged abuse and said the couple was due in Searcy County court later that morning due to previous domestic-related issues.
She said prior to the stabbing incident, when the two were alone, Akins refused to let her off the couch, holding her down by the throat. He then allegedly grabbed a knife, held it to her stomach and told her he was going to stab her to death, then kill himself.
When the homeowner called 911, Akins stabbed the victim in the stomach while continuing to attempt to do so again as the victim fought him off. As the homeowner and the other male also fought off Akins, he reportedly stabbed himself in the neck.
Akins is facing felony charges of second-degree domestic battery, false imprisonment and first-degree battery. His bond was set at $15,000.
