Nearly two hours after four football players signed to continue their playing careers on the collegiate level on Wednesday, another Mountain Home senior made it official to continue his athletic career. Whit Lawrence will join the cross country team at Ouachita Baptist University in Arkadelphia.

Ouachita Baptist just rebooted its men’s cross country program as a club sport this last fall, but they are expected to transition later this year to an NCAA Division II intercollegiate team, and Lawrence says he is looking forward to being a part of it.

Lawrence finished as the individual Class 5A state champion in 2020 and as the runner-up in 2019, and he’s a three-time individual conference champion. He also helped lead the Bombers to a runner-up finish in the 2020 state meet and a championship in 2019.

Lawrence gave much of the credit to his coaches and teammates in preparing him for collegiate competition.
