The winter weather is arriving on Sunday, and for some parts of the Twin Lakes Area, it has already started. As of 6 a.m., there was a light snowfall at KTLO, Classic Hits and The Boot, and we hit a record low at the official reporting stations for the National Weather Service in Mountain Home. The low ended up at 5 degrees, eclipsing the previous low of 10 degrees set on this day in 1929.
A winter weather advisory is in effect for Marion, Searcy, Boone and Newton counties until midnight Monday, and another will be in effect for Baxter, Fulton, Izard and Stone counties from noon Sunday until midnight Monday. A wind chill advisory is in effect for North Central Arkansas until noon Sunday and for Southern Missouri until 6 a.m. Tuesday. Southern Missouri is also under a winter weather advisory until 6 p.m. Monday.
Meteorologist Joe Goudsward from the National Weather Service office in North Little Rock says the snowfall we’re currently seeing is to become more significant as the day continues.

Goudsward says in addition to the winter weather, the colder air is going to deepen over the next couple of days.

While the area will not get a break from the colder temperatures, the wintry mix will taper off Monday. However, Goudsward says another system is expected Wednesday.
