A report of a Valentine’s Day domestic violence incident has led to the arrest of a Baxter County man, 45-year-old Joseph Copes of Mountain Home.

Izard County Chief Deputy Charley Melton says on the morning of Feb. 14 law enforcement responded to the incident at an address on Corinth Road.

Upon arrival, a deputy observed several spots of dried blood on the stones on the walkway and steps of the porch to the house.

While talking with individuals inside the residence, the deputy learned Copes had been staying with his girlfriend in a small building on the property.

At the small building, he made contact with Cope’s girlfriend. When she opened the door, the deputy observed the woman had several injuries, including her lower left eye lid being partially severed and folded down onto her cheek. She also had blood about her face and neck.

Copes has been charged with second-degree battery, a Class C felony. He was scheduled to appear in Izard County Circuit Court on Tuesday.

He also had a failure to appear warrant out of Izard County District Court. He is scheduled to appear in Izard County District Court on March 4 on this warrant.
