The Mountain Home High School basketball teams had mixed results Monday playing their second-round games in the 5A-West District Tournament.

The Bomber boys earned their first state tournament berth in five years by picking up a 64-53 victory at Van Buren. The Pointers had a five-point lead at the end of the opening, but Mountain Home was up one at the break. There were four ties between the two teams, but in the second half, the Bombers never trailed. Mountain Home built a double-digit advantage and went on to win by 11.
Mat Jones led the Bombers with 24 points, Wyatt Gilbert scored 15, and Jake McGehee added 12. For Van Buren, Avery Salisbury had 20 points, and Jose Estrada chipped in 12.
The Pointers’ season comes to an end with a record of 13-9. Mountain Home improves to 9-12 on the season and will head to Vilonia Tuesday to compete in the district semifinals.

The Lady Bombers did not fare as well, as their season came to an end with a 40-26 loss at Russellville. Mountain Home struggled to get anything going on the offensive end, and Jaidyn Koerdt came out firing for the Lady Cyclones in the first half. Russellville was kept mainly quiet in the third quarter, as the Lady Bombers cut the margin down to 10, but they would get no closer with the Lady Cyclones eventually posting the 14-point victory.
Mountain Home was led by its two seniors, Kate Gilbert and Addison Yates, in their final game with nine and six points respectively. Koerdt finished with 23 points for Russellville.
The Lady Bombers wrap up the year with a mark of 5-21. The Lady Cyclones are now 17-9 and will play their semifinal game Tuesday at Vilonia.
