Cleburne County Sheriff Chris Brown says deputies from his department and emergency personnel responded to Shiloh Marina on Greers Ferry Lake Monday afternoon for a possible drowning.

Sheriff Brown says in a news release shortly after their arrival on scene, emergency personnel were able to recover the male who had gone under the water, and medics performed CPR in an attempt to resuscitate him.

The male, identified as 55-year-old Robert Beel of Pleasant Plains was pronounced deceased while in transport.

Beel’s family was at the scene and said he had been in the water working on a boat but was unable to return to the surface, after he went back into the water a second time. Family members also tried to rescue him, but were unsuccessful.
